No fruit can substitute the benefits of an apple. It is aptly said that ‘an apple a day, keeps the doctor away’. But you will be shocked to know that the apples that you buy from the stores are coated with a harmful wax coating.
Why is the wax coating done?
Apples are by nature coated with a thin covering of wax that comes naturally in them to protect it from losing moisture. But, in order to store them for a longer period of time, a food-grade wax is coated on it by human beings. This will make it look fresh for many days. This food-grade wax is generally made from petroleum, which is not at all good for the body. It may even cause cancer.
How to get rid of the wax-coating?
If you are buying apples then stop buying it from the stores, rather buy it from the local farm stand or farmer’s market, where you will get them fresh. These apples are not coated with the man made petroleum wax, but the natural wax that the apples create to retain its moisture.
And if you are buying them from the stores, then wash them properly before serving. You can fill your sink with lukewarm water till 4 inches. Then add a tablespoon full of lemon juice and baking soda. Now put the fruits in it, and scrub off the wax with a scrubbing brush. You can do this with other fruits and vegetables too. Then rinse them properly so that you can get rid of every single bit of wax from it. Now dry them with a cloth and serve to your dear ones.
