Thugs Kidnap 12-Year-Old Girl. But Run For Their Lives When These Wild Animals Come To Her Rescue.

Child marriages are such an unfortunate part of reality in some countries around the world. In an age when little girls are supposed to be attending school, and learning skills to help them prosper into young, successful women, many find themselves being wives of men much older to them.

One such story stems from Ethiopia, where bride kidnapping is unfortunately very common. Men kidnap young women and girls in efforts to eventually impregnate and marry them. Reports have it that an 12-year-old girl was taken by a group of thugs in hopes that she would marry one of the men. Thankfully, fate had something else planned for this little girl.

The young child was kidnapped from her home in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia by 7 kidnappers and had been reported missing for a week. The police and her family were all frantically looking for the little girl, but when they found her, they couldn’t believe what they were saying. Animals from the wilderness had come to her rescue and were sitting there protecting her from harm. And they weren’t just any animals—three lions were standing guard around her.

Us humans always encourage a safe distance between the tamed and the wild, but this story really comes to show how an animal’s instincts of love and protection are so strong, regardless of what breed and animal family it belongs to.

Stuart Williams, a wildlife expert, says that he thinks the lions heard the girl’s cries for help and came to her rescue. He says, “A young girl whimpering could be mistaken for the mewing sound from a lion cub, which in turn could explain why they didn’t eat her.”

Sgt. Wondimu Wedajo, who helped find the child, said, “They [the lions] stood guard until we found her and then they just left her like a gift and went back into the forest.”

Police managed to catch and punish 4 of the 7 men involved in the kidnapping.
