When it saw what was happening to a little girl, this dog completely lost it

Five-year-old Remayah Hernandez from Florida was riding her bike on the sidewalk in front of her house when something happened that most parents have nightmares about: the little girl was attacked by the neighbor's dog, a mixed-breed Labrador. The dog began biting Remayah's face and when she started to scream, her mother ran out to help her.
But before Remayah's mother could intervene, the family dog, a pit bull named Trigger, jumped over the fence and tore the attacker away from "his" girl. Trigger ended up injuring the Labrador so badly that it showed no hope of recovery and had to be put to sleep.

For Remayah's mother Lucila, one thing is clear: "He’s like a hero. He’s like a protective dog. We taught him to be protective and caring for the family." If it hadn't been for Trigger, she might not have been able to save her daughter.

Remayah believes that her dog is a superhero. Fortunately she wasn't injured very badly and she has Trigger to thank for that. But in the first few days after the attack, Remayah didn't want to sleep at home because she was badly traumatized and the attack was still very vivid in her mind.
Instead she spent a few nights with her aunt to recover from the tragic incident. Her family also made sure that Remayah underwent plastic surgery as quickly as possible to remove all traces of the attack and prevent any further trauma when she looked  in the mirror.
Many people who are attacked by dogs spend the rest of their lives living in fear of them. But Remayah knows that even though it was a dog that put her life in danger, it was also a dog that saved her life. She knows that every animal has a different character, and despite a few rare cases, most of them are living proof that dogs truly are man's best friend.
