One amazing capability of the elephant is showing empathy. They mourn their dead and they provide distressed animals, and even humans, with calming comfort. Here’s an example of just how strong these emotions are. A handler has his friend pretend to attack him. While he really was not harmed, they wanted to show how the elephant would react in such a situation. What ended up happening is pretty incredible. The elephant actually rushed to his rescue.
As you’ll see these amazing creatures have an enormous amount of affection that they are capable of extending out to even humans.
