This type of fat can be extremely dangerous because it is deposited around organs and can lead to many chronic problems, says nutritionist
Most of us think that body fat around the waist, so-called “Pot belly”, is due to consuming unhealthy foods such as pizza, burgers or chocolate, but nutritionists point out that the reason may be the stress.
“When we are tense or under pressure, hormones such as cortisol are produced which encourage the accumulation of fat around the abdomen. This type of fat can be extremely dangerous because it is deposited around organs and can lead to many chronic problems, such as the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, and even cancer, “explains nutritionist Marilyn Granville .
She adds that our modern way of life brings a number of stressful situations that cause discharge of adrenaline.
Our body is programmed so that in times of danger adrenaline and cortisol are discharged that give us energy and help us to be physically ready to react in those situations. However, our modern way of life in which we are not active, and constantly under stress , it seems that this energy, in form of fat and glucose, is nowhere to go, but in form of fat cells is deposited around our abdomen.
Also, stress stimulates the appetite and seems as our body needs an unhealthy food.
And, what’s the solution?
Nutritionists advise you to stop with the diet and counting calories, and eat more often, small meals (every three hours).
Avoid sugars and refined carbohydrates (If you cannot stop, do not consume them after 6.00 PM), and add proteins in your diet – they reduce the feeling of hunger and help in weight loss process.
Do not skip breakfast, avoid the soda and sugary drinks – water is the best solution, try to walk and try to eat slowly.
