Cuba has developed a vaccine called Cimavax, an effective vaccine against malignant diseases that Americans wants to import. Despite the 55-year-old embargo, the vaccine Cimavax will be clinically tested in America.
The vaccine proving highly successful in stopping tumor growth, has existed for 25 years, and in Cuba is free applied since 2011.
Executive Director of the Institute Roswell Park Candace Johnson said that they had to do more with less (resources), and therefore had to be innovative in the approach to problems. Their community of immunology is there for 40 years, said Johnson.
Studies conducted in Cuba a few years ago showed that patients who receive Cimavax lived four to six months longer than the unvaccinated, yet the ultimate goal is to bring cancer in the resting phase.
US researchers are not only excited about the potential Cimavax, but also for other cancer treatments developed by Cuban specialists.
