What happens when three men break into a home, armed and looking to rape a 19-year-old girl? If it’s 67-year-old Kenneth Byrd’s home, then things are not going to end well for the three scumbags.
It went down in Lumberton, North Carolina, where Byrd, his wife, and his 19-year-old granddaughter were. At 10 p.m. there is a knock on the door. A guy said he was having car trouble and wondered if he could get some water. Then, two armed men hop up from behind the man. They are wearing black and have ski masks and gloves on. They shove Byrd aside and proceed to enter the home. They ask for money, then take the couple to the back of the house where they demand the safe be opened up.
The money was one thing, but once Byrd learned these dirtbags allegedly were intending on performing a gang rape on the teen granddaughter, he knew he had to turn the situation around, and quick.
He reached inside the safe and pulled out his gun, then proceeded to shoot all three. One returned fire and Byrd caught a bullet.
The men then took off in Byrd’s Cadillac. Brandon Carver Stephens and Jamar Hawkins went to the local hospital for their wounds. Meanwhile, 20-year-old Jamie Lee Faison, died in the Caddy.
As for Byrd, he was airlifted to a hospital where the heroic grandfather remains in critical condition.
