Time Lapse Video Shows The Devastation Of Hurricane Matthew On Jacksonville

Hurricanes are one of the most destructive forces Mother Nature could ever throw our way, but it’s not just the wind that makes them so dangerous. That, mixed with the incredible volume of ocean water they push beyond the shoreline are both more than capable of causing billions of dollars worth of property damage to a single location and there’s not much we can do to defend ourselves from them. Sometimes they seemingly pop out of nowhere and there’s not much to do about it besides boarding whatever windows up that would be exposed. That’s unfortunately about all.

If you still need a little convincing to believe hurricanes are no joke then simply take a look at this timelapse from Hurricane Matthew’s encounter with Jacksonville, Florida. Aside from brutal winds the saltwater continually rushes further inland until you can tell there’s at least one or two flooded buildings.

Fortunately it doesn’t appear as though any of the buildings were blown down and none of the roofs were uplifted, but there’s more damage here than meets the eye. If you’re ever unfortunate enough to find yourself facing a hurricane in the near future and you live somewhere close to the sea, you might want to consider evacuating for a little bit…
